Knight was awarded the Silver Medal and the Cross of the Legion of Honor at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris and was knighted in the Royal Order of St. Michael of Bavaria in 1893. The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia honored him with a gold medal in 1893. His artistic legacy continued through his son, Louis Aston Knight (1873-1948), who was also a noted landscape painter.
